I am a marketing professional who loves baking, eating and talking about food. Ask any of my friends and they will tell you I am crazy about food. I think about food before, during and after I eat. The first thing that I think about when I open my eyes in the morning is...food! When I am eating breakfast, I will think about what's for lunch. When I am having lunch, I will plan what to eat for dinner and dessert. At dinner time, I will start thinking what to have for breakfast the next day..and it goes on and on and on.....
I'm very sure that I was born with food obsession (it runs in the family). But the patisserie obsession really really only set in after I arrived in Sydney early 2009. Although I was very good at eating, I knew deep down that I was also not too bad at cooking or baking. But being in a new country with limited friends and 'social activities', I found solace in creating food, specifically baked goods. I would spend hours experimenting in the kitchen until wee hours of the morning on a weekday (no wonder I looked like crap at work!) AND during the weekend. 10 hours daily of non-stop baking and standing, with no complaints of any leg cramps - I knew this was going to be a lifetime affair.
In 2010, I took a year off work to study patisserie. During that time, I worked in a French patisserie, various cafes and cakes shops to improve my baking skills (I also learned how to make coffee - like a barista!). It was an experience of a lifetime, one which I'm not sure I would have the chance to do again. I thank God (and my significant other half & parents) for giving me the opportunity to discover my passion, talent (I think it's talent) and the guts to actually do it. I am better at it today than a year ago and I will continue to get even better than today.
With regards to this blog..I am NOT a super food blogger. I do not really have a vision of how this blog should work or who the target readers are (unlike many popular blogs out there). This blog was brought to life in 2009. My earlier posts were mostly based on my home cooked meals. And when I started class, I had a bit (ok ok a lot of) of ranting sessions. I also posted what I learnt in class and how I coped and managed with the change in lifestyle. So dear readers, I can only offer you my passion (hopefully it ooozes out from the computer screen) and the rest is up to your imagination.....
To make things better, this blog donned a new look as of 21st June 2011. It is fresher and brighter, and most definitely designed to help absorb all good and positive energy (oooommmmmm....). Hopefully, this will enable me to continue to blog about my food adventures, whatever they may be. I call this the "ROJAK" blog, a happy place for me to talk about food (and whatever I feel like). Bear with me and enjoy the ride, for one day you and I will be in for a big food surprise.
Cheers.
